Back Country Wellness is one of the most well run practices I have ever had the pleasure of working at. Due to moving, I was unable to continue, however, had I stayed in Connecticut this is where I would have wanted to plant my flag. As someone who worked there I know first-hand how meaningful this work is to everyone who works there. All professionals in this practice go above and beyond to help their clients achieve a meaningful and healthy life; more-so, they assist clients in making sustainable changes to their lives. Dr. B is incredibly insightful and caring, and through that care she has built BCW into an amazing experience for the clients and families of those who receive services from BCW. When looking at a place for employment, I can't think of better. When looking at a place to receive treatment, I again cannot think of better- know that whoever receives treatment here will be cared for, nurtured, and encouraged to make life-long improvements.

When I think of my daughter's anorexia recovery journey Lexi Meytin has been there every step of the way. Quite frankly I don't know what we would do without Lexi. She is a wealth of knowledge, brilliant, goes above & beyond for her patients, yet is so real & down to earth. The teens love working with her! As a parent she has taught me so much about Ed. My daughter has made tremendous progress under Lexi's care! Thankful Grateful & Gratitude are an understatement to how appreciative we are!!

I don't normally write reviews but felt the need to write one for Back Country Wellness since it was a positive experience (and I know how hard it is to find Eating Disorder Center reviews). My daughter spent about 7 weeks at BCW in their residential treatment center. The first few days were very challenging, but once she settled into their routine and stopped fighting the process, it got easier for all of us. In addition to weight restoration, BCW gave her the tools and support she needed to move forward with her health. Their care coordinators and psychologists gave her real, supportive, positive and consistent feedback. It was also very customized to her specific circumstances. My daughter has now transitioned to Outpatient treatment with their providers. As a parent, I was very resistant to the scary idea of residential treatment, but I'm so glad that I did this for her. This changed the trajectory of her ED in a way that I am forever thankful.

I have collaborated with Backcountry Wellness for several years and have worked alongside dedicated, passionate leadership and staff. Backcountry inspires clients and provides the motivation to recover in a lovely, serene environment. It is the professional, highly skilled staff that enables Backcountry to provide the individualized care unique to each client and family member/caregiver. Every one of the talented staff combined with compassionate leadership collaborate thoughtfully to run outstanding groups, nutrition education and meal support while providing excellence in individual and family therapy. What I admire the most is their client centered approach with the ability to meet clients where they are and inspire them to not only want to recover but give them the confidence to believe that they can. Backcountry Wellness dedication to helping people recover truly makes a difference.

Backcountry Wellness saved our daughter. We had pulled her from another PHP program in Southport that was doing more damage than good and she saw many friends relapse and go back to residential. We were very reluctant to try another program. I called the number for BCW and Dr. B answered the phone and asked me to hold on because she was driving and had to pull over to take notes. Then, I knew this was a different kind of program. My daughter was admitted to the program within a week. She started the IOP program in March of 2021, was discharged in September of 2021. Dr. B was honest, compassionate and realistic during the intake interview. The therapist taught my daughter strategies to fight the ED voice and how to ask for help when she was struggling. The family therapist listened to all of our concerns, gave my husband and I strategies and suggestions to help us at home. She knew just how hard to push and challenge our daughter to get her out of her comfort zone and move forward. My daughter’s dietician not only offered meal support, but also how to identify and fight the ED thoughts and behaviors. She helped set realistic attainable goals so my daughter felt empowered and successful in her treatment. Her dietician validated my daughter’s sadness about relapses, and then reminded her to take a minute to be thankful that she didn’t go down that road. And, that her prior experiences allowed her to be ready to lean in and receive treatment to get better. My daughter felt solid enough in her recovery that in January of 2022, she went back to the program to talk to the current patients and show them that recovery is possible. It is August 2022, and she is in a solid recovery. Her sweet, loving personality is back, as is a new found confidence and voice. She enjoys food, eats freely, and has energy to fully participate in life.

Working with Heather, Molly and Leslie changed my life. They each connected with me on so many levels of my disordered behavior and really gave me steps, one at a time, small goals each week, to improve myself. I’ll admit I was really ready for this. I wanted out and more importantly I wanted myself as I am today, with good coping skills dealing with all issues we have. Normal stuff!! I only had an eating disorder as a coping skills. It was my life, my love, my safe place. I knew I had to ask for help and these ladies truly went above and beyond for me. I learned to have relationships outside of my disorder in a healthy way. I reconnected and communicated better. I learned to choose living over dying… over pain. I can’t say enough about Back Country. Thank you for being there for me along this part of my path to self love and true health. You’re always in my head. My favorite line, “ you got this”

BCW changed my life! Or more accurately, the BCW staff helped me to change my own life. Four years after my last session there, I still often call on the experiences I had there in my times of need. Forever grateful to the folks at BCW who helped me to heal at my darkest point when no one else could understand, and I even made some lasting friendships. Thank you BCW!

Backcountry was an incredible resource for our daughter. Everyone that she worked with was caring, supportive and knowledgeable. After she stepped down they were always willing to help her and she knew they were an email or a text away. We can not say enough wonderful things about them and the comfortable, nurturing and theraputic environment that they offered her. Melissa Redmond is an amazing culinary and meal support director.

BCW is an excellent treatment facility for adolescents looking for a warm, inviting, and specialized approach to their individual recovery. Offering all levels of treatment including their newly established and picturesque Residential Cottage, clients have access to highly trained and incredibly empathic clinicians. As a Psychotherapist in the community, I have observed their approach to be evidenced based, customized to each client's needs and inclusive to all clients seeking treatment. Dr. Joanna Bronfman is an incredibly warm and knowledgable leader and leaves adolescents feeling a soothing reassurance as they step into recovery.

I went into BCW after having a terrible experience at another eating disorder out patient treatment facility. Immediately I was welcomed and put on a custom plan that was specific for my needs and my goals. Unfortunately there are not many places that allow you to have an individualized treatment plan completely tailored to you, but BCW allows for everyone’s needs to be met. Being just a sophomore in high school I was anxious about how this would impact my future. It didn’t. Every struggle I went through has only helped me gain the confidence I needed to enjoy my life. I am now a sophomore in college and thank BCW for never giving up on me because I would not be the person I am today without them.
